Fillers can smooth lines and wrinkles and add volume to areas of the face to help ease aging changes and help keep you looking great!
There are multiple options for hyaluronic acid filler products with different consistencies and clinical capabilities, so it is important to consider your choices carefully.
Our team at Chicago Aesthetic Surgery Institute can help guide you select the filler that will work best for your skin type and cosmetic goals.
We use hyaluronic acid-based fillers that are approved to treat nasolabial folds, frown lines, crow’s feet and thin lips. Hyaluronic acid is found in the body’s connective tissue, and it adds volume and fullness to the skin. Here is a sampling of the products that we provide:

Side Effects of Dermal Fillers
Possible side effects include redness, swelling, tenderness, and bruising around the injection site. Some patients experience slight discomfort. Some dermal fillers may be visible if they are not injected very deep. In such cases, small bumps or nodules can be seen or felt beneath the skin. However, these side effects can be avoided when the injections are performed by an experienced injector such as those at Chicago Aesthetic Surgery Institute and NeoDerma DaySpa.
Direct Wrinkle Filling
Direct wrinkle filling with fillers is an advanced injection technique to soften a wrinkle that has already formed by filling the wrinkle with hyaluronic acid fillers. The treatment is usually done over a few separate injection treatments spaced weeks to months apart to obtain the best and safest results.
Most common areas treated for direct wrinkle filling include the following:
- Glabella lines -deeper wrinkles in the area between brows known as the glabella
- Deep nasolabial folds
- Lateral facial lines commonly called “accordian lines” that run next to the nasolabial folds
- Neck lines commonly called necklace lines
How It Works
Injection of hyaluronic acid fillers directly into a wrinkle or a region of wrinkles is performed by an advanced injector with a technique to create space for the filler to take effect. The local effect of hyaluronic acid as a filler then volumetrically decreases the depth of the wrinkle thereby making the wrinkle less visible. A secondary effect of cell stimulation is thought to help deeper wrinkles like this over time.
What To Expect After Treatment
Direct wrinkle filling involves a bit more direct needle treatment of the area that may leave the area a bit more irritated for the first few days as compared to standard hyaluronic acid filler injections. Standard swelling and bruising risks are always possible.
Other Treatments To Consider
Toxin treatments in areas like the forehead and glabella should be considered. Wrinkle release with wire subcision may be needed for deeper wrinkles. Laser treatments and resurfacing may soften the wrinkles by using this modality in conjunction with direct wrinkle filling.
How CASI Does It Better
Direct wrinkle filling is an advanced technique requiring injection expertise. At CASI, between our nurse injectors, nurse practitioners and plastic surgeons, we have years of experience allowing us to offer direct wrinkle filling with limited risk.
Indications- FDA Approval
Similar to hyaluronic acid indications.
Safety Information/Contraindications
The risks of direct wrinkle injections are similar to hyaluronic acid treatments with the added risk of vascular disturbance to the skin treated and to the region of treatment.
Biostimulatory Fillers
Sculptra
SculptraⓇ is injectable poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) that acts as a biostimulator. This biodegradable material has been used for decades in many applications in the field of medicine including in dissovable sutures. PLLA activates the body’s natural regeneration process and stimulates the body to create collagen. Collagen is the most common protein in the body and is intricately involved in skin support.
As one ages, collagen production decreases and the face loses volume and the skin starts to look older. To help restore facial volume, SculptraⓇ injections stimulate the body to create more collagen and increase facial volume. Since it’s your body’s own collagen production that is being boosted over time, the effect is gradual and very natural!
The hightly trained professionals at CASI customize your treatment plan and help determine if Sculptra is the right treatment for you!
SculptraⓇ Intended Use / Indications
SculptraⓇ Aesthetic helps correct shallow to deep facial wrinkles — and folds that appear with aging — by replacing lost collagen.
It involves a treatment regimen consisting of up to 4 injection sessions that are scheduled about 6 weeks apart for correction of shallow to deep nasolabial fold contour deficiencies and other facial wrinkles.
Since Sculptra® Aesthetic relies on stimulating your own body’s regeneration process, it is intended for use in people with healthy immune systems.
Important Safety Information for Sculptra Aesthetic
You should not use Sculptra Aesthetic if you are allergic to any ingredient of the product or have a history of keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring. Sculptra Aesthetic should not be injected while you have an active skin infection or inflammation in the treatment area, and should not be injected into the red area of the lip. Use in the skin near the eyes is not recommended.
Side effects of Sculptra Aesthetic may include injection site discomfort, redness, bruising, bleeding, itching, and swelling. Other side effects may include small lumps under the skin that are sometimes noticeable when pressing on the treated area. Larger lumps, some with delayed onset with or without inflammation or skin discoloration, have also been reported. In a key clinical study the incidence of small and larger lumps were low, and most resolved without treatment.
RenuvaⓇ
Renuva is a biostimulator injection treatment that gradually restores volume by encouraging your body to replace the Renuva product with your own fat cells. Because Renuva is gradually replaced with your own fat cells, the effect is natural and long lasting!
Renuva is injected into areas of the body that thin with age related fat loss. Commonly treated areas are the following:
- Face
- Neck and Děcolletage
- Hands
- Breast corrections
- Irregularities from liposuction
- Buttocks
- Depressed scars
How It Works
Renuva contains the structure of your own fat: collagens, growth factors and proteins. Over 3 months, your body replaces the structure of Renuva with your own fat cells.
What To Expect After Treatment
Renuva is injected in a similar manner as fillers. The product gets replaced by your own fat cells over 3 months. The average fat cell is thought to have a 5-10 year lifespan.
Other Treatments To Consider
Renuva is an off the shelf product. Some patients may want to consider injecting their own fat harvested by liposuction. Cost considerations may need to be individualized as well as donor site issues such as pain and healing time.
Each patient’s aging pattern is unique- aging gracefully is the goal at CASI!
The aging process is multifactorial and affects the face on every level- one of the face, soft tissues (like fat and muscles) and the skin itself.
With that in mind, we at CASI always start with a full facial examination and will start the discussion of other treatments as we get to know you. Renuva injections do not address all the changes that come with aging; however it’s a good time to start when you see that the natural volume loss seen with aging is becoming an issue leaving you with a thinned and aged appearance.
The time frame of aging that most patients have volume loss that Renuva can help with volume correction, coincides typically with other aging changes that require a different treatment.
Toxin Treatments– The common areas that respond well to Botulinum treatments are horizontal forehead wrinkles, vertical and horizontal wrinkles in the area between the brows known as the glabella, and lines at the corners of the eyes known as “crow’s feet” or lateral canthal lines. Botulinum toxin is a prescription medication that is injected into very specific muscles of the face to temporarily relax the muscle and soften the specific facial wrinkles caused by those muscles.
Hyaluronic acid fillers treatments, Sculptra treatments.
Photofacial/IPL/BBL treatments can help with the browns and reds of skin as it ages. Laser peels and chemical peels help with skin texture and intrinsic aging changes of the skin. Microneedling and Morpheus (Microneedling with energy from Radiofrequency Frequency) energize the body while healing to tighten skin and stimulate collagen formation. Small pockets of fat can be melted with Kybella while focused facial fat sculpting with FaceTite can smooth fat pockets that droop with age.
Wrinkle Release / Subicision
Deep wrinkles, facial skin folds, contour depression, dimples and cellulite can be “released” from the underlying tissues with a technique known as subcision. Subcision is done with needles- as in no knife needed!!
The treatment is done through small needle entry points near the area to be treated. Local anesthetic is first injected to make the treatment comfortable, then the needles are inserted through needle holes on each side of the area. The wire that connects the two needles is passed underneath the area, at the subcutaneous level. This wire loop then completely encircles the region to be subcised and then disconnects or “releases” the skin from the tissue underneath.
The body’s own healing products will then fill in the space improving the wrinkle. Alternatively, a filler (such as hyaluronic acid) can be injected to fill in the subcised space to further enhance the effect of subcision and keep the area open. Other options to inject to enhance subcision treatment of wrinkles include your own fat as a fat graft or an off the shelf, biostimulator filler such as Sculptra or Renuva.
How It Works
Subcision disconnects the skin from the underlying tissue allowing the body to fill in the area. Skin issues that can be treated are wrinkles, dimples, cellulite or even a scar.
Additional treatments can be added to subcision to futher enhance the effect; Hyaluronic acid fillers, fat graft or biostimulators such as Sculptra or Revuva are commonly used.
What To Expect After Treatment
There is mild swelling after the treatment. Bleeding or bruising is uncommon. The needle entry points heal over quickly.
Other Treatments To Consider
Most people Treatments such as neurotoxins such Botox or Dysport along with fillers can be considered to help treat wrinkles and skin depressions. Biostimulatory fillers such as Sculptra or Renuva are also good options. Facial rejuvenation can further enhanced with Photofacial treatments, laser peels or chemical peels.
How CASI Does It Better
Each patient’s aging pattern is unique- aging gracefully is the goal at CASI! The aging process is multifactorial and affects the face on every level- one of the face, soft tissues (like fat and muscles) and the skin itself.
Wrinkle release treatments are very focal in effect and do not address all the changes that come with aging. With that in mind, we at CASI always start with a full facial examination and will start the discussion of other treatments as we get to know you. We offer non-surgical treatments, minimally invasive treatments and plastic surgery options to help you age gracefully.
Indications
Subcision or wrinkle release with a wire dissector is minimally invasive tool for for complete subcision of deep lines, folds, depressions, and scars of the face, neck and body without incisions and with few complications.
Safety Information/Contraindications
Patients should be in good health and without bleeding or clotting disorders and without tendency to healing with hypertrophic or keloid scarring.
